Carl KB2KDV is organizing build-a-crystal-radio dates with local schools. Great success so far! Here's N2WRC assisting with assembly, while across the room W2SGX chats up some interested students. Contact Carl KB2KDV if you would like to help with the effort, it's great to be a kid again. Or at least help one have some fun with radios! The Cornell Center for Materials Research, supported by the National Science Foundation, is sponsoring the activity.
As in 2000, the 2001 MS Bike A Thon on Aug 18-19th was a resounding success. Fifty-three riders gathered a total of $13,000 in support of Multiple Sclerosis research, up from 43 last year and 27 riders in 1999. What few problems there were on course over the two days were easily handled by TCARC hams, headed by fearless net control Howard N2VJV. Amanda, the event coordinator, told several hams "I don't know how we'd do this without you!" Of course they could do it, we just make it nicer! Thanks for the nice compliment Amanda, and thanks for our T-shirts!
In 2001 our own Carl KB2KDV not only rode the course on his bicycle, he rigged for 2m bike mobile. Here are pics of Carl's setup and other memorable moments.
Here's a pic of six of the eight TCARC hams who participated in 2000, with the sister of the lady who took the picture 'hamming it up' on the side. First row, left to right: Carl KB2SGX, Schuyler KC2DYR, Mike N2VR; back row l-r: Howard N2VJV, Howard N2WLG, Bill KB2ETO. Missing: Carl KB2KDV and Nathan KC2GLK.
